Planting design / Cambridge
In this spacious and well established garden these clients were interested in a re-design for the large central borders. Originally planted with herbaceous perennials without much winter presence, the clients were looking to reduce maintenance and increase the year-round presence of these beds. The new planting design uses a range of unusual and striking shrubs to provide a vibrant setting for a selection of the clients’ favourite roses (chosen for autumn/winter hips as well as flowers). Many of the shrubs have a Mediterranean twist, climate-proofing the garden for years to come. Geraniums and other flowering perennials were used as ground cover and to provide insect forage, while a range of ornamental grasses acts as a foil to the evergreens and evokes a feeling of space and movement.
